When to seek treatment

However, get emergency medical care if you have new, severe dizziness or vertigo along with any of the following:

  • Chest pain
  • Change in vision or speech
  • Fainting or loss of alertness for more than a few minutes
  • Fever over 101°F (38.3°C), headache or very stiff neck
  • Head injury
  • Irregular heart rate (heart skips beats)
  • Seizures
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weakness or inability to move an arm or leg
