Our recreational therapists use leisure activities like art, sports and games to improve function and increase well-being and independence.
Our speech therapists will be there to assist, if needed, with any swallowing difficulties, diet modifications, cognitive impairments, and speech or language difficulties.

What to expect

You may receive inpatient rehabilitation services if you are hospitalized due to an injury, surgery or illness that requires intensive therapy for recovery.

Before being transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility, your medical team will create a discharge plan that outlines your rehabilitation needs to ensure a smooth transition for your recovery journey.
To qualify for inpatient rehabilitation services, you must demonstrate the ability to tolerate at least three hours of therapy each day, five days a week. Treatment may include physical, occupational or speech therapy, depending on your individual needs.

As a patient receiving inpatient rehabilitation services, you are expected to actively participate in your therapy sessions to the best of your ability.

This means engaging fully with the therapists, following their guidance, and practicing the exercises or activities prescribed to help you regain your strength and independence.

Maintain a positive attitude, communicate openly about your progress and any challenges you face, and set achievable goals with your rehabilitation team. Your commitment and effort play a crucial role in maximizing the benefits of your rehabilitation experience.

Here are general guidelines and information to help you make the most of your rehabilitation experience:

  1. Be prepared for therapy. That means dressing and eating meals, with staff assistance, prior to your therapy appointments.
  2. We encourage you to eat all meals out of bed.
  3. Spend as much time out of bed as possible. This will help improve your overall endurance and tolerance for therapy.
  4. Always participate to the very best of your ability.
  5. Please keep the therapy department notified of any plans that may interfere with your therapy sessions. You will be receiving three hours of therapy, five days per week while on the unit.
  6. Ask for your pain medication before therapy to decrease the chance of pain limiting your ability to participate fully.
  7. Always feel free to let the therapists know what they can do to assist you better.
  8. Cell phones are not allowed during therapy sessions.

Absolutely! Family support is vital for a successful rehabilitation experience. Involving loved ones can also help them better understand your therapy goals and progress, enabling them to offer support outside of the clinical setting.

The therapy team may also involve family members in certain activities or education sessions to ensure everyone is aligned in supporting your rehabilitation journey.
